BEE will be joining in the festivities at the FREE family Summer programs this year.  We will be making a drum to take to the concerts.  These are the same drums that we learned how to make from our time with Dr. Woodson.

Come and join us.  If you are part of a Charter School or other Homeschool Group in the area and you would like to help us in our booth, please contact me.  We are looking for people to share our booth that are passionate about helping families know they have an alternative option to education.  Last year they had over 600 families in attendance.

About the Festivities:

The Department of Theatre Arts is thrilled to once again bring summer of theatre to Saddleback College. After Godspell’s free theatre debut last year, this year’s performances have been expanded to two musicals and two jazz concerts under the stars in the month of July. Each show is free and open to the public. For those who don’t wish to bring a blanket or sit on beach chairs, reserved seating is available at $20 per person (pre-sale only). For reserved seats, call the ticket office at 949-582-4656 (Tues-Fri, Noon to 4:00 p.m.)

On Friday and Saturday, July 10th and 11th , Mary Poppins in Concert will grace the outdoor stage on the upper campus quad. Directed by Craig Tyrl with musical direction by Diane King Vann, this concert will feature the familiar characters and songs from the beloved movie musical, along with additional material from PL Travers book. The score/story is being told by actors playing the roles with an onstage orchestra center stage. Simple staging will help the audience’s imagination create the Banks home, Bert, the Chimney Sweep’s land, and everything in between. Enjoy a night out under the stars with this gem of a show — practically perfect in every way–for the entire family.

On Friday, July 17th , Swing Under the Stars with the Saddleback Big Band will be presented by Jazz Studies under the direction of Joey Sellers. On the next night, Saturday, July 18th, Joey Sellers performs with his talented Jazz Studies Student Combo on the outdoor stage.

On Friday and Saturday, July 24th and 25th, enjoy a summer night under the stars to the fully-staged production of Grease. Directed by Craig Tyrl and musical direction by Lex Leigh, the Rydell High School teenagers Sandy and Danny, the Pink Ladies and the T-Birds will rock out to such classics as Summer Nights, Greased Lightnin’, Look at Me, I’m Sandra Dee, Rock & Roll Party Queen, and We Go Together. Don’t miss a chance to hang out with the 1950’s working class youth subculture known as greasers!

All shows will begin festival seating at 6:00 p.m., with areas available for blankets, low-back chairs, and high back chairs. Guests are invited to bring a picnic dinner or enjoy food from several local food trucks and other vendors providing drinks and snacks. The festival grounds will also feature a small vendor’s area with fun activities for all ages, as well as information booths from Saddleback College Departments and other community groups. Vendors will change from performance to performance. Last year’s vendors included art demonstrations, magic shows, face painting, balloon animals, and dessert and coffee samples. A free drawing will also be held for some fabulous prizes for local area attractions, available to all guests.
